Why?

A number of different antimicrobial agents and technical systems have been devised for disinfection and control of microbial growth. Many commercially available active agents are expensive, toxic to humans, non-biodegradable and ecologically questionable. Depending on the application, this may result in toxicologically high-risk contacts and has come under increasing scrutiny in the public. Therefore, there is a growing demand for natural, ecologically and economically favorable antimicrobial agents. However, such natural agents are often poorly water-soluble, may have an obnoxious smell or taste, or are not able to unfold the necessary antimicrobial efficacy adequately at technically achievable concentrations.
Peroxides, especially hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite and/or hypochlorous acid, are among the most eco-friendly antimicrobial agents and therefore have customarily been applied for antimicrobial water treatment over many years. However, without further modifications, these compounds are considerably volatile and usually will only achieve insufficient antimicrobial efficacy.

THE solution.

L.O.G. Technology®

The outstanding feature of L.O.G. Technology® is its composition: micelle-forming plant extracts, an emulsifier and water are compounded with an active agent. Such combination significantly exceeds the expected additive antimicrobial activity of the single constituents, since the active agents are incorporated into natural micelle packages, which facilitate the penetration of bacterial cell walls.
Results demonstrate that the use of L.O.G. Technology® achieves significantly improved antibacterial efficacy against e.g. L. pneumophila compared to non-micelle preparations of the same antimicrobial agent.
The Clinic of Hospital Hygiene and Infection Control, Medical University of Vienna, investigated L.O.G. Technology® in mature biofilms. The results revealed complete elimination of all bacteria in biofilm after 5 minutes exposure time.

The basis for the micelles are plant extracts, re-formulated by thermal processes. The combination of these natural extracts with an active substance leads to the formation of micelles which absorb the active substance. The latter is able to penetrate e.g. biofilm structures and to unfold its antimicrobial efficacy right in the microorganism. When the “loaded” micelle reaches the vicinity of a bacterium, adhesive forces become effective and the micelle fuses with the bacterial cell wall. The active substance reaches the cell and destroys the organelles of bacteria.

Penetration of slimy structures is facilitated by packing an active agent into micelles. By this means, the active agent is transported through the biofilm and can be directly released at site.
